He is an active high school student-athlete.  He participates in road races.   He loves to play basketball.  He wants to become a doctor.

Jay Poindexter is the 15-year-old son of Buddy and Cheryl Poindexter from Michie.  His goals and aspirations are similar to those of many of his peers, but there is one significant way in which he is different.

Because the MCHS freshman was born with spina bifida he has never been able to walk.  That handicap has never stopped him from pursuing his dreams.

Feature Stories: Stroup Is "Motorcycle Man"

When the tone sounds at the end of a school day, many students who exit the building are transformed into other roles.  They discard their book bags and mechanical pencils to assume the roles of fast-food cooks, go-cart racers, spring sport athletes, afterschool tutors, rodeo cowboys, and factory workers.

Like Clark Kent emerging from the phone booth as Superman, they shed their scholarly images and assume a number of other identities.  At McNairy Central, Principal Cecil Stroup is no exception.  When the work day is behind him, the mentor on "the hill" loves to experience the thrill of the open road   .   .   . ON HIS MOTORCYCLE!
