McNairy Central’s Career & Technical Education Class, Teaching as a Profession I & II / Future Teachers of America students were honored to be part of Ag Literacy Week in McNairy County on November 13th-16th, 2023.

Mrs. Molly Stanfield’s students were able to read to Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade classrooms in all five elementary schools in our school district. Over 1,000 students learned about the importance of agriculture in their community.

  • Pre-K classes learned about fruits, vegetables, and MyPlate through the book “Right This Very Minute”.
  • Kindergarten classes learned about dairy and beef from “Tales of the Dairy Godmother”.
  • First graders were taught about locally grown crops like corn, soybeans, and cotton and were read “Where Oh Where Does the Yellow Corn Grow?”.
  • Second graders got a visit from Smokey the Bear thanks to Brandon Hall and Joel Henson from the TN Dept of Ag Division of Forestry and learned about forestry from the book “Travis Visits a Tree Farm” and “Smokey Bear Story”.

It was a busy but productive week for everyone involved. “I am truly blessed with the best students! They all participated by reading and dressing up in costumes related to the books they chose.
