A stellar five-person class will be inducted this year into the McNairy Central Sports Hall of Fame. The class will include a member of the original MCHS faculty and the youngest member ever chosen to the school's sports HOF.
This year's class will be inducted at a banquet on Saturday, August 18 at McNairy Central. The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. in the commons.
The Class of 2018 includes Bobbie Randolph, Darrell Wyke, Jeff Avery, Tommy Browder, and Ken Bingham.
Randolph taught PE at MC for 30-years before retiring in 2000. She was the head coach of McNairy Central's first-ever softball team in 1979. She was the softball coach for three seasons before retiring and took great joy in seeing the success of the softball team the past two seasons.
Wyke was a football standout for the Bobcats in the early-80s and went on to play football for Lambuth. He was a team leader for the football team and was named the Defensive MVP in the River City Bowl in McNairy's win over Memphis Prep.
Avery was a two-sport all-star for the Bobcats in basketball and baseball. He later became the first Bobcat to play in the NCAA baseball tournament when he played shortstop for MTSU. He was the point guard for the Bobcats on outstanding teams in the mid-80s.
Coach Browder established records as head football coach at MC that may never be topped. He led the Bobcats to the state playoffs in his first season and is proud to have been the coach of the school's only teams to have posted perfect regular seasons in 1990 and 2001.
Bingham will become the youngest Hall of Famer when he is inducted in August. He became the school's third all-time leading scorer with 1,970 points before he wrapped up his career. He holds the school record for most 3-pointers in a career with 206.
A player must have graduated for 10-years prior to becoming eligible for election into the HOF.
