Seniors Earn Nursing Certification
Ten MCHS Seniors have passed the exam to earn the title Patient Care Technician.
The students took an exam that tested their knowledge of basic patient care, including such skills as blood pressure, venipuncture, collecting lab specimens, changing dressings, and discontinuing an IV, among other skills. Though the test itself is written or 'book' knowledge only, nursing instructor Debra Hurst requires the students to demonstrate the actual skills in her class before she allows them to take the test. Students must score at least 86% to pass the exam, which is 100 questions over a 120 minute testing period.
Students with this certification can find employment in hospitals and doctor's offices, and expect to earn at least $15 per hour with their skill set.
Those seniors who passed the exam are Deja Barnett, Megan Churchwell, Matthew Cosby, Kearsten Edge, Marissa Harrison, Lyndsey McCalvin, Nathaniel Overman, Leah Stanfield, Deja Weekly, and Emma Whitten.
